The sound of my daughter coughing whilst trying to sleep does nothing to pacify my anger at what I believe to be one of the few areas where we are actually failling our citizens.
This year has seen some of the worst levels of air pollution that the capital has experienced as a result of sub-saharan dust particles and industrial pollution from the continent. As a result, the EU's decision to launch legal proceedings against the UK for failing to reduce 'excessive' levels of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) air pollution- mostly from traffic- after 15 yrs of warnings is one I actually support.
How can we be so apathetic to something that the World Health Organisation considers to be the largest environmental health risk, especially when it is something that we can actually do something about.
As a Conservative, of course I support individual choice, but not when that choice has a significant impact on the development of my children's lungs and our day to day quality of life.
I believe we should all be working together to call on and encourage our local councils to be able to actually act for the health and well-being of all of us.
